چکیده

According to recent studies, Norway spruce cones and eastern hemlock possess exceptionally high antioxidant capacities; however, the efficiency of extractives their bioactive effects have yet be investigated in detail. The present article utilizes state-of-the art analytical chemical methodology chemometric evaluation reveal cone with highest potential, accounting for possible effects. Antioxidant properties were determined by Ferric reducing power (FRAP) assay Folin–Ciocalteu’s total phenol content (TPC) assay. Structure relative polyphenol concentrations using liquid chromatography/diode array detection/tandem mass spectrometry. antibacterial testing was conducted Staphylococcus aureus Escherichia coli strains. Using correlation analysis factor analysis, a scoring implemented determine compare extractives. In spruce, piceatannol-O-hexoside coumaric acid derivatives found most powerful antioxidants, while hemlock, kaempferol glycosides powerful. test did not show any promising antimicrobial activity against E. coli, although visible inhibitory effect on S. strain observed.

Retrieval of chlorophyll and nitrogen in Norway spruce (Picea abies L. Karst.) using imaging spectroscopy

The research evaluated the information content of spectral reflectance (laboratory and airborne data) for the estimation of needle chlorophyll (CAB) and nitrogen (CN) concentration in Norway spruce (Picea abies L. Karst.) needles. To identify reliable predictive models different types of spectral transformations were systematically compared regarding the accuracy of prediction. The results of t...

Conserved Function of Core Clock Proteins in the Gymnosperm Norway Spruce (Picea abies L. Karst)

From studies of the circadian clock in the plant model species Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana), a number of important properties and components have emerged. These include the genes CIRCADIAN CLOCK ASSOCIATED 1 (CCA1), GIGANTEA (GI), ZEITLUPE (ZTL) and TIMING OF CAB EXPRESSION 1 (TOC1 also known as PSEUDO-RESPONSE REGULATOR 1 (PRR1)) that via gene expression feedback loops participate in the...

Patterns of Nucleotide Diversity at Photoperiod Related Genes in Norway Spruce [Picea abies (L.) Karst.]

The ability of plants to track seasonal changes is largely dependent on genes assigned to the photoperiod pathway, and variation in those genes is thereby important for adaptation to local day length conditions. Extensive physiological data in several temperate conifer species suggest that populations are adapted to local light conditions, but data on the genes underlying this adaptation are mo...

Are Early Somatic Embryos of the Norway Spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) Organised?

BACKGROUND Somatic embryogenesis in conifer species has great potential for the forestry industry. Hence, a number of methods have been developed for their efficient and rapid propagation through somatic embryogenesis. Although information is available regarding the previous process-mediated generation of embryogenic cells to form somatic embryos, there is a dearth of information in the literat...
